LOS GATOS HISTORY
Together with Jeffrey Siegel, the President of the Los Gatos Historical Society, America Dream TV presents another fascinating episode!
Jeffrey says that the town has “quite a long history.” Its roots can be traced back to the mid-1800s when it was a logging community. Later on, it changed into something else with the advent of Silicon Valley.
Los Gatos town was founded in 1887, the same year it opened its first schoolhouse. The town grew to 5,000 residents by the 1930s.
Jeffrey also shared that John Steinbeck wrote “The Grapes of Wrath” while living in Los Gatos. From the bustle of San Francisco, the Bay area’s scenic beauty allowed him to experience peace and quietness. Today, people visit this town for the same reason.
LOS GATOS HISTORICAL HOMES
Glen Ridge Avenue is the most impressive street in the historic neighborhood because of the size of its lots. These homes overlook the rest of the town from above and show different periods in history—from white houses with classic architecture, to Queen Anne-style houses, to farmhouses and Craftsman-style homes. It’s fascinating to see all these high-quality architectural styles within such a short distance of each other.
